Work experience

2004 - now: Research scientist, Danish Meteorological Institute.

    • 3D ocean and sea-ice modelling
      Set-up and running the coupled ocean model HYCOM and sea-ice model CICE. for the Arctic and Atlantic Ocean with focus on Greenland waters.

    • Tidal analysis and tide tables
      Tidal analysis on sea level observations and production of tide tables for the Danish, Faroe Island and Greenlandic waters.

    • Oilspill and particle tracking modelling
      Setting up an oilspill/particle tracking module for operational use in North Atlantic Waters (see DMI news). Also done ensemble oildrift modelling for estimating the risk of oil polution in Greenland waters.

    • Data handling and analysis of hydrographic data from Greenland waters

    • Oceanographic field work

    • Particle tracking modelling
      Particle tracking model including random walk diffusion. Used for simulating the transport of fish larvae and eggs in the waters around Greenland. Different approaches of growth as a function of time and temperature is incoorporated.

2001 - 2004: Ph.D. Student, Danish Meteorological Institute.

    • 3D ocean modelling
      Finite element ocean modelling using Quoddy and Fundy for the Greenland waters.

    • Particle tracking modelling
      Developed a finite element particle tracking model including random walk diffusion. Used for simulating the transport of cod larvae and eggs from the Southwest Icelandic spawning grounds to the Greenland waters and for simulating the transport of shrimp larvae in West Greenland waters.

    • Analyse observations from Greenland waters
      Analyse drifter data from the 1990s with special focus on the Irminger Sea and Denmark Strait.
      Analyse atmospheric data from Greenland synop stations.
      Analyse hydrographic data in Greenland waters.
      Analyse catch data of fish and shellfish in Southwest Greenland waters.

      Calibrating and validating the 2D storm surge model Mike21 for the North Sea/Baltic Sea area, espcially in the shallow areas and in the narrow straits.

    • Windstress parametrization
      Testing different windstress parameterizations in storm surge modelling using Mike21. 

    • 3D ocean modelling
      Testing the 3D model Mike3 for the North Sea/Baltic Sea area.  

    • Oilspill and particle tracking modelling
      Calibrating, validating and setting up the oilspill/particle tracking module Mike21sa/pa for operational use.
